Lawn aeration & power raking

Help a tired, compacted or thatchy lawn recover and grow back thicker.

Aeration

A core aerator pulls small plugs of soil out of the lawn, so air, water and fertilizer can reach the roots. It helps most where the soil is compacted, such as lawns with a lot of foot traffic.

Power raking

Power raking (dethatching) pulls out thatch, the matted layer of dead grass and roots that builds up between the soil and the green grass. Too much thatch keeps water from soaking in.

When to do it

Most Cache Valley lawns are cool-season grasses such as Kentucky bluegrass, which recover best when this work is done in spring or early fall, while the grass is actively growing.
